Associate: Dr. Allen L. Peterson
Dr. Allen L. (AL) Peterson is a 1982 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds a MS in Systems Management from USC, a ScD in Management of Engineering and Technology from Northcentral University, a Level III Certification from the Defense Acquisition University, and a Test Pilot Certificate from the US Naval Test Pilot School. He served on active Duty in the Army for over 20 years as an Attack helicopter pilot, a troop commander, an Experimental Test Pilot, an Exchange Test Pilot to Her Majesty’s Forces, and a Project Manager. After retiring from active duty, AL served in a variety of senior leadership positions with the Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) before taking over as President and CEO of the National Test Pilot School (NTPS) in 2011. While at NTPS, AL led numerous groundbreaking initiatives including NTPS being the first test pilot school (TPS) in the world to attain approval by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, and the first TPS in the world to attain accreditation as a Graduate University. He is now spending most of his time on travel adventures around the world with some teaching, consulting, and mentoring thrown in during his spare time. Al has been teaching graduate level classes in flight test engineering and project management for over 20 years both at NTPS and SNC; and in-flight instruction in flight test techniques for over 10 years at NTPS. He has worked on over 80 flight test programs on dozens of different aircraft to include the AH-1, AH-64, UH-60, CH-47, UH-1, Lynx, Gazelle and Sea King. AL is a Fellow in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and a Life Member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers.
